As part of the Government of Sri Lanka’s ongoing digital transformation programme, the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) has officially extended its Electronic Birth, Marriage, and Death Registration System (eBMD) to Sri Lanka’s overseas missions.
Effective from 7th February 2025, Sri Lankan citizens residing abroad can now obtain certified original copies of Birth, Marriage, and Death certificates—registered in Sri Lanka—directly through the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence.
This milestone marks a significant step forward in the Department’s digitalization journey and demonstrates Sri Lanka’s strong commitment to delivering citizen-friendly, efficient, and globally accessible public services through digital innovation.
